Relationship Revival

Ever since I was a kid, I struggled with emotional stress. I had crushes on girls so bad; I was almost obsessed with them (if not completely). This dragged on to almost halfway through my high school life when I began to mature, and all that was left was that feeling of longing. And after what I like to call "REVIVE's Pine Valley Revival," it began to fade a little, but then it came back and hit me like a train. It was crazy.

I guess the reason I bring this up is because I noticed a few younger girls hitting up on me, and one of them actually asked me out. I found it odd, but I said, "Yes." It was late and I did not know what I had done until church the next morning. Then it hit me: I am not the only one who is going through stuff like this. I now see it every day, overhearing conversations about girls wanting the attention of that one guy who will make them feel happy, going through break ups, and even about 10-years old kids who are "dating."

The first couple years as a preteen, we begin to go through a hormonal process that affects our emotions, moods, minds, and body. Well, you get the idea. Sometimes we can't think straight. We act on certain emotions and thoughts we have about someone or something and strive for it. Sometimes we just let our craziness destroy us. Through it all, we might suffer unnecessary heartbreak and struggle due to changes of emotions and how we feel towards something (or someone). We learn to mature and become men and women.

2 Timothy 2:22 says, "So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." Get it?! Flee from youthful passions! Run away from your emotions and selfishness and instead pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace.

God wants you to pursue Him first. He is the main reason why you would get into a relationship anyway—to be married and represent Him as a couple who has become one (Mark 10:8-9). I heard a quote once that says exactly what I want to say: "Relationships, without the intent of marriage, are like going to a grocery store without cash. You walk in, hoping to buy something, but leave empty handed."

"…for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything." —1 John 3:20
