The Patient has unfortunately become a Christian...
In Chapter 2, Screwtape reacts to the news that the Patient has, unfortunately, become a Christian. Even though the man has accepted Christ, Screwtape reassures Wormwood that all is not lost. He explains that even though the Patient has joined the church, his faith can still be weakened through disappointment, disillusionment, and encouraging the judgement of others.
Screwtape advises Wormwood to make the Patient focus on the flaws of other church members and to have unrealistic expectations of what Christians are "supposed" to be like. Of course, it's also imperitive that the Patient never looks inward at his own behavior and spirituality.
If the Patient notices hypocrisy or irritating behaviors in others, he may become cynical about the church and question his faith or even the reality of this whole "Christianity" thing.
Chapter 2 reveals how the enemy (Satan) can use even a person's involvement in church to subtly draw them away from God.
"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." —1 Peter 5:8
