What is the true meaning of Christmas?

With all the commercialism and pressure and stress that the world has wrapped around December 25, it's sometimes hard to remember what Christmas is all about. We have one word for you to answer this question: LOVE. The Bible tells us that "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:16-17). God's loving grace and mercy through the sacrifice of His Son is the greatest gift ever given to anyone—and it was given to YOU!

When thinking of "The Christmas Story," what do you see? Hopefully not images of the leg lamp from that Christmas B-movie from the 80s! The real and true Christmas story is one of God taking on human form and being born in humble surroundings as the Person of Jesus Christ. Why would God ever do such a thing? To turn Himself into one of His creations? To suffer the reverberating pain that sin has brought into the hearts of men and women? Because of love!

God is love itself (1 John 4:8). And when He recognized humankind's problem with sin, He knew that there was only one way to solve it: send us a Savior from our sin. When we celebrate Christmas, we celebrate the birth of this Savior, giving each other gifts just as God gave us the gift of Jesus Christ. We worship Him in gratitude because His staggering love for us resulted in a miraculous gift of salvation for everyone who would receive it.

The true meaning, the true point, of Christmas is LOVE. God loves us so much that He wants to give us an opportunity to spend eternity with Him. Jesus was born human, lived a sinless life in our stead, then died in our place, paying the price for sins He never committed. Because Jesus saved us from the condemnation due to us because of our sin, we can know that we are truly free and fully loved. That is what Christmas is all about.

"But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." —Romans 5:8

TL;DR
