“Live Like You’re Loved” – Hawk Nelson

Have you heard Hawk Nelson’s song Live Like You’re Loved? The song talks about, well, living like you’re loved. And the truth is, we are loved, but not a whole lot of us act, think, walk, or live like it. Yet, friends, not only are we loved, but we are well loved.

Now, disclaimer here, I’ve been a diehard Hawk Nelson fan for years. And as any faithful fan would, I bought their album Diamonds the day it came out in 2015. Listening through it that day, I immediately took a liking to Live Like You’re Loved. Once it released to radio, I was very glad that lots of more people would hear it. Why? Of course I loved the song, sure. But I was really glad because this is a message that everyone needs to hear. Now I believe that not only does everyone need to hear the message, but through this song, God has changed lives. Many of them. How do I know this song could change lives? Because one of them was mine.

When I first heard the song, I fell in love with the lyrics. But it’s amazing what happens over time. Listening to Live Like You’re Loved several months ago, it hit me that the words I was listening to now meant a very different thing to me than it did when I first heard them. When I first heard the song, I wanted people to hear it and be encouraged by it. But as I was listening to it later, I realized that the song was talking directly to ME.

I’ve battled anxiety, and if you have too, you know the downward spiral anxiety brings. I’d been experiencing that for the past couple years. Then I hit bottom. I mean. Rock. Bottom. It was only there that I realized the cliché is correct: God IS the rock at the bottom. And He’s been teaching me quite a few things. The one I want to share with you is this: YOU ARE WELL LOVED.

No, you may not feel loved. But you are. And you are more loved than you could ever imagine. You are loved by the One who made you, who thought up the idea of you before there was even a universe (Ephesians 1:4). The One who sent His own Son to take on the punishment that you deserved due to your sin—He LOVES you (John 3:16). And not only does He love you, but He wants you by His side (1 Timothy 2:4).

We can believe so many lies about God, but this is the truth: God is here for you no matter what. He is not waiting for you to mess up. He’s not standing off in the distance with His arms crossed, watching for you to take a wrong step, think a wrong thought, do a wrong thing. In fact, He already knows the next step you’re going to take, the next thought you’re going to think, and the next thing you’re going to do (Psalm 139:1-6, 16).

I know, that may seem really, really scary. But in fact, this is an astoundingly freeing thing. God already knows every part of you, and He loves you anyways. You are loved by a God who knows every good and bad thing about you—past, present, and future. Yet He can’t help but love you because love is who He is. It’s His very nature (1 John 4:8).

You don’t have to be perfect to come before Him. In fact, we’ll never be perfect, so don’t stress about perfection. That’s why Jesus Christ died for you. If you’ve accepted His gift of Christ’s sacrifice, accepted Jesus as your Savior from eternal punishment, then you’re made perfect in Christ, and God sees His perfection in you (Hebrews 8:12).

Friend, you are loved. And you are well loved.
